Bailey Cates is a New York City–based trumpet performer and educator. As a recent graduate of the Juilliard School, she holds a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance, and a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
As a performer, Bailey serves as an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and New World Symphony for the 2026-2027 season, and has performed with the Juilliard Orchestra in Carnegie Hall, and Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center. She looks forward to an upcoming performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of a collaboration tour with the Juilliard Orchestra and Royal Academy of Music. An active chamber musician, she has participated in the American Brass Quintet Seminar, and won third place competing in the National Trumpet Competition with the competition’s first all-women trumpet ensemble in history.
Equally passionate about education, Bailey has served several roles teaching and coaching students through the Juilliard Precollege Program, Music Advancement Program, and Summer Performing Arts in private lessons, sectionals, studio classes, chamber music, and large ensembles (Wind Ensemble and Orchestra).
Bailey’s teaching emphasizes full-person development while developing musicianship, building upon a foundation of theory and aural skills, and the utilization of vocal techniques to encourage healthy and sustainable practice habits. She strives to create a supportive studio environment where students are challenged, encouraged, and inspired to continue their growth on their own.
Whether you are a beginner, aspiring music major, or comeback player, Bailey is committed to helping students achieve their musical goals while fostering a lifelong appreciation for music.
